Video card question

Hi,

Ok Im not really framilar with computers so sorry if this is a stupid question. I just bought a new video card, Geforce 6600 pci I've noticed when I play games on the computer for a few hours my video card would really heat up really hot where it would be almost untouchable so I was wondering if thats normal? Or could the reason for it over heating be because my power supply isnt pumping enough juice. My power supply is 400 watts I got two fans running to :(
 
I think you mean PCI-E, since nVidia doesnt make a PCI card above the 5700LE. What part are you touching, the memory or the GPU? What are the Amps on the +12V rail?
 
Im not really sure what part its called, but lets say I've already connected the video card to the computer and Im touching the bottom middle part of it hope that makes sense. And whats amp +12 rail
 
The amperage on the +12V rail should be printed on a label on the power supply (it should have all the voltages, with an amperage below). You can check the temperature of your card in Windows, assuming you have the nVidia drivers installed. Under Display Properties -> Settings -> GeForce 6600 -> Temperature Settings. An idle temperature under about 60C should be fine.
 
I couldnt locate the temperature settings. Found out that the power supply is actually 300w and not 400w. Wasnt sure which one amperage was the one you wanted so I just wrote down everything I saw :)

Lets get quantitative, what are the temps?

Control Panel --> Display --> Advanced --> Settings --> Advanced --> Temperature (or something like that, im going from memory)
 
Maybe Im doing it wrong, but I still cant find the temperature. I went to Display properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> and what it brings me to is Geforce 6600 properties, from there I couldnt find the temperature. This what it shows on Geforce 6600 properties monitor,color management,general,troubleshoot,adapter and Geforce. Someone said you can check the temperature in Bios but I dont know how to do that.

id like to hear this? i mean... i wanna check my temps on an old 9550 (old setup) that uses a fanless heatsink. thanks much
