hey, u guys might of noticed my earlier posts, my integrated graphics sucks. so i decided to buy a vid card.
i do not game, and if i do, its not the new games, it's mostly halo, (i knw old) the first one. but i do use the comp for hw (high school) and email, surfing the web, checkin out CF. and my lcd screen is starting to show lines, and if u look cloely it is blurring. when i first built this comp, i used a backup lcd, it sux, the company name is unrecognizable, but it was a 22 in for under 100 so it became abackup, my dad needed my samsung one and keeps it so i'm using this one,

my current integrated graphics are: ati Radeon 1200
i dont game, and i only have one pci express slot open, so if you guys would suggest some that would be great, btw i completely suck w/ videocards.

For the PCI type cards the BFG 256mb GeForce 6200 is seen for $69.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143110 The latest in that price range for ATI models would be the 9250 a little antiquated at this late date.

For that make and model board going with a PCI-Express card would still be the best move since there are plenty to choose from whether ATI or NVidia driven. In the $50-$75 price range you can look at quite a few seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+1069609641+4026&name=%2450+-+%2475

LCD monitors will display something very similar when out of sync, or when drivers change. Pressing the auto or adjust button on the monitor can solve this unsightly occurrence. If it's what I'm thinking it is, that is.

i press auto and fiddled aroudn w/ the settings and reset, to no avail, still stupid retarded looking lines. is it time for a new monitor or gpu?

thnx sfor ur replies guys but, does dx10 matter? i knw it makes grpahics in games look alot better, i read the dx9 vs. dx10 review in PC Magazine, but i thot dx10 was only good w/ vista. and i most probaly will upgrade to vista....later w/ a dual boot.

Having a DX10 capable card won't hurt even while running XP. A newer model by ATI or NVidia will also see driver support longer then searching around for updates on an older card. For a basic DX10 compatible card the HD 2400s are priced around $73 or less at newegg.

Both Sapphire and Gigabyte have their own HD 2400XTs at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...41+106792278+1067929490&name=Radeon+HD+2400XT

ATI driven cards at time and date are noted for image quality while the 8800s are more gaming driven there.

i guess i'll go w/ ati then...i don't game much at all. when u say hd 24000xts...does the 'hd' mean hi def?

and also another thing.... will this fix my monitor image problems? once this monitor dies i'm going to invest in another one...but should i buy one now? and btw my monitor doesnt have the DVI port part., its only the other one (vga????)

this is off topic...but isnt ati owned by AMD or something???

AMD bought out ATI so that's correct there. Hopefully that will now start seeing even better results while NVidia has already slipped ahead gaming wise.

On the last build here I ran with a lower end card even gaming with a Radeon X1300Pro PCI-E 256mb card there. For the new build still too early for an AMD quad core cpu the idea was to move upto a mid range card for the improvement there with the HD 2600XT 512mb model. The price is still $100 or more for that for the time being.

The HD is for High Definition and newer cards will all be leaning in that direction. On the new 19" lcd just bought to replace a 4-4 1/2yr. old 17" model it sees the standard vga cable as well as the new HD type. This particular model sees usb ports and can dock an IPod however with the much higher stand eliminating the need on most for a monitor stand if you need to raise it up any. http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcddisplays/xseries/vx1945wm/

Originally I was looking for a standard not widescreen style lcd and actually had a VisionQuest model by Viewsonic picked out at newegg but while browsing came across a sale in a local office supply store. Between rebate and no shipping charges I seemed to have saved money, carried the lcd out, and no longer needed a stand. :D

thats cool thanx pceye uve been alot of help, ill chose one of the recommended cards...and pick upa new monitor too...if u guys have any suggestions that would be great...the cheaper the better.

ATI saw a large price drop on their new models compared to what was seen for the X1xxx lineup of Radeon models. Here I simply went for a mid range model along with the higher price while the HD 2400s are down in price around $73-.

Monitors these days practically come in all shapes and sizes to some extent. That will depend on how large and how much. A good 19" runs close to $200 if not more. The widescreen models usually see a lower price then the standard display.

The first looks the best if you prefer the widescreen over the standard seen with the second. The response is 5ms on the first while 8ms on the standard. The Viewsonic standard model being looked at here seemed to top the three there for the little more pricewise as seen at the link here namely the Optiquest model with 5ms. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116098

I kind of still getting accustomed to widescreen viewing since catching a deal at a local retail store on another model. Both the first there and the Viewsonc include builtin speakers and seem the best.

Simply don't plug the cable into the sound card or onboard output jack for speakers on the board itself and turn the volume knob down all the way. Those are there for convenience if you are not looking for good sound like for multimedia and gaming to begin with just to hear the default Windows sounds or viewing presentations at the work place without being "LOUD + CLEAR"! :P

With the new lcd here I can dock an IPod(which I don't own) or simply patch head phones there rather then reaching around the back of the case. With a set of 5.1 speakers I simply ran the patch cord to the head phones jack on the front center and plug the base for the cordless into the monitor's base.

Built in speakers besides the need for quiet like a work place come in handy for not having space for a speaker set as well. But those are still an option. The most important thing however is how a monitor looks as well as the size and type like seeing a low number for the response time especially for gaming or simply viewing animations.
