Hey. I was thinking about giving my video card an upgrade. Does anyone know which one I should got. Right now I got Ati 9800 pro. Should I get the highest and the newest Nvidia or stick with ati card and use another one.

Each probably has some issues to talk about, but nVidia typcially is the best all around. ATI's quality seems to of gone down recently as well...or so I've heard.

I would go for ATI X1800 or X1900 series.. much better than the Newest nVidia....I always used ATI cards and never ever had any problem with them.. They provide excelent quality.. that's my opinion...:D

But in 2 months than nVidias cards will beat ATI. Then ATI will beat nVidia in a couple more months. And the cycle continues. I voted for either, you could either go with a GeForce 7800 GT or GTX or a Radeon x1600XT or 1800 Series and be fine for awhile. Either option is a fine choice. There is a card on both sides for every budget.

Anyone who has been in this hobby will agree with you 100%

What is the next card for nVidia? I hear it's the 7900... but has there ever been an odd numbered card? Besides the FX 5500's, if u look... like the 6800, 7800, 6600...

Budget?

Check out the X800/6800 series or even the new 7800GS.

As nice as that would be, they won't fit...

So does nVidia.

Do you know if you have AGP or PCI-E?

He is running the 9800Pro which means the AGP interface.

If they would fit the mobo... :P

i think nVidia is the best

Actually they're a little bit behind ATI atm, but it'll turn back & forth (as always).

in my opinion (at least for now) i think that nVidia's GPU's are more powerful than ATI. Also, nVidia is compatible with linux!!

Personally, I wouldn't want to spend too much money on an AGP video card, as you'll have real trouble keeping it in a future upgrade. A 6800GS might be a good choice if you really want to, but even then i'd probably save a little more money and upgrade the mobo as well. Anything below a 6600GT really wouldn't be worth the money, as you probably wouldn't notice an enormous difference for your money.

If you have a motherboard that supports both PCI-E x16 and AGP, then it's a different matter of course.

i disagree with u, 7800GTX was the best card for 6 months, while X1900 will be just the best card for 1 or 2 months, because nvidia is planing to release 7900 very soon.

in my opinion nVidia is better

I find ATI to be much better, the x1900 series was made to compete with nVidia's 7800 series. ATI is also much cheaper, a 7800GTX 512MB costs around $750, while a x1900XT costs around $520. With a little overclocking the x1900XT outperforms the 7800GTX 512MB, and its much cheaper.

no no, u made big mistake, the x1800 was made to compete with 7800, not x1900, and 7800 was released 6 months before x1800.

x1900 is suppose to compete with 7900.

And we know the 7900 will kick x1900 in the nutz:D
