Video Cards and Screen resolutions

Okay, I know very little about computers so please be patient. My monitor recently went dead and I went with a coworker and we both purchased a Envision G19LWk 19" Widescreen LCD. I haven't taken it out of the box yet. My coworker informed me the next day that he returned his since his video card didn't not support the resolution 1440x900.

I went home and did a
properties->settings->advanced->adapter->list all modes...
and see that 1440x900 is NOT a mode listed. My video card is the
ATI RADEON Xpress 200 Series

So is that game over? I wasn't even sure if that was all the modes as on the monitor tab where I would set the refresh rate, there was a button about hiding modes that the monitor I am using (which is an old CRT) couldn't use. Unclicking this box didn't change the list in the "List all modes..." but that was a different tab.

I just want to make sure before I return this monitor that my card truly won't support it. I got a really good deal on it and I would prefer a widescreen. I am not however going to replace my video card for it. I haven't been able to find any information online about the available modes supported by the Xpress 200 series nor a list of available cards the monitor can use.

Thanks in advance.

Its the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 and it came with the computer, an EMachine that has a AMD 64 Althon inside. I don't know whether that means it is onboard or not. I bought the computer new Sept of 2005, so it is not that old, but it is possible this graphics card doesn't support 1440x900. I assumed all modern graphics cards would support all Modern Moniters but I guess that is not correct.
