Video Cards to work with HDR in Half Life 2: Lost Coast

When i got my Dell Dimension 8300, it came with a 128mb DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card which somehow blew up and now it doesnt display video properly. So, i went to Staples and found a $30 3D Fuzion GeForce MX 4000 and thought that i could use this temporarily. After saving up, i bought Half Life 2: Game of the Year and it came with Lost Coast, an extra map with High-Dynamic Range. I'm going to Best Buy this week to shop for a new video card and thinking to get the ATI AIW 9800 PRO 128MB Video Card since i don't think my current video card supports HDR. I just want to know if this video card is worth the money and if it could display good graphics for Lost coast because i really want to play it in HDR. Give me some suggestions on other video cards because i am just getting into computer games and don't know much about these things.

Any PS2 card will run HDR on the source engine. It just might not run it very good... And whatever you do, dont buy a video card at best buy. You'll end up spending twice as much as you should. Whats your budget? Buying from newegg will be loads cheaper.

halflife2 lost coast really isn't that good. Don't buy a graphics card JUST to play it in HDR, i mean its almost like a demo. And yes, tell us your budget, and what does your motherboard have agp?

Yeah, I looked and Bestbuy was selling an x1600 for $400 Canadian. lol. (that's about $350US) The evga 7900gt co was only $320US

My budget for a video card is $100 to about $250.

I am not only going to use it for lost coast, i am going to buy counter strike and other games soon. Yes my motherboard has agp.

I want to get a video card that will last me a couple of more years because this computer will probably be given to my other siblings soon. Can you please give me advice on good video cards for reasonable prices

I'm assuming thats USD. For your budget, the conect3D X1800GTO is a steal for $178 after MIR.

EDIT: Oh, just saw you have AGP. Your probably going to be bottlnecked by the rest of your system. Look around for a 6800GS, I couldnt find one on newegg.

I just went to Futureshop (Canada) and bought a ATI Radeon X700 Pro. Right now, i'm trying to get it to work but it fails when trying to launch a game.

EDIT: Nevermind, i got it to work.

Have you installed the drivers?

How much did you pay for it? Its a decent card but I think you could have gotten better.

ya it is a demo pretty much. if you are going to get the vid card then you might as well get CS:S which has HDR maps as well.
