video clip from dvd?

i want to make a presentation using a clip taken from a dvd i have. how do i do it? that is, how do i make a playable video file from a dvd movie?
 
Not sure if you can do that with any Write Protected Movies. You'd have to somehow capture the DVD video onto your PC.

I am getting familiar with Corel Video Studio Video Editor I picked up a couple of weeks ago - and you can save the file in all kinds of formats - but I just tried capturing a Movie - and the copyright protection doesn't allow me to capture anything but snow - either in the PC DVD drive - or even via video capture card.

Home Movie DVD's or stuff captured from Cable Television can be captured on a PC just fine though.
