video driver issue

bought a laptop that came with vista. before i bought it i searched online to make sure that the drivers were available if i installed xp. i found numerous forums where people had a lot of success finding the drivers and giving links to download them.

so i installed xp, downloaded all the drivers, and everything worked fine. the only driver that gave me trouble is the video driver. once i install it, it wont boot into windows. it will only boot into safemode. if i uninstall the driver in safemode and reboot, it boots into windows without a problem.

could it be a bad driver? or could the video card be bad? no one else seems to have a problem with the driver that i downloaded.

well i decided to just try and reinstall xp again and now it will not boot in regular mode even right after the install. not sure what is going on. anyone have an idea?

it basically shows the windows loading part, then goes to a black screen and freezes. i can only get into windows through safe mode

well i've downloaded 8 different drivers from different sites to try and see if the driver was bad or possibly wrong. none of them worked.

so i decided to reinstall windows and install each driver one by one to see which driver may be causing the problem. but i didnt even get that far so now I have a new issue.

Why would you try to download so many drivers? Why not just get the correct one in the first place? What card is it?

OMFG!!! that is way to much, you google search and then you pick the first one and that is it.

i downloaded 8 different drivers cause each one i tried kept making the laptop freeze (or so i thought). they were all supposed to be for this card (nvidia 7150m).

strangely ive figured out the problem. it was the copy of xp i was using. i reinstalled again with a different copy of xp i had and now the laptop works totally normal. all the drivers work fine (including video) and i have no problems with it freezing anymore. so thats that
