what are some good video editing software other than

sony vegas or final cut pro?

For starters, you should be a little more specific than just "good video editing software." Tell us what you want to do with it. How advanced do you want to go? Google might show you where to download some free (or at at least cheap) thing for doing home movies, or you may be wanting some hi-tech thing that isn't by Apple or Sony, in which case you might have a look at the Adobe products.
