Video Freeze

Hey,
I'm a little frustrated with my machine and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is with it. =/ When I play any sort of graphic-intensive games the program will freeze and lock up. Sometimes it comes back after a minute, while other times I need to go into the task manager and end the task. It also does not seem to have a regular pattern. It will often perform great for quite a while before the program locks up.

The two programs that I have especially noticed this issue on are COD Black Ops and Civilization 5.

Here are the related specs:

AMD Phenom II x4 925
4GB DDR3 GSkill RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+

Also (I don't know if this is a related symptom), whenever I attempt to install my USB 3.0 driver there seems to be a conflict with the video driver. I'll install that driver, restart, and then the computer locks up and the video goes haywire. It hasn't bothered me too much since USB 2.0 works fine and I don't have any 3.0 devices.

Thanks!

have you updated your NCP drivers?

What is NCP?

Just after I updated to the newest version of my video card's driver I got a blue screen shortly after opening Civilization 5. I rolled it back to the previous driver, but the same problem still persists.

I don't even know that I have the control panel installed...it may just be the driver. Would that make a difference?

I figured it out...

I replaced the unit with an XFX AMD Radeon HD 6750. It seems to have solved the issue. My Windows Experience Index went from 7.0 to 7.3 on both gaming and desktop graphics, and my USB 3.0 driver is installed and working flawlessly.

was kidding, not allowed to do jack to this computer even though the psu in it is mine since its failed, and my computer's cpu is too slow to use it right and psu is too weak, and is agp too. but would gladly take it just to sell on ebay :P

Ahh...sounds like it's time for an upgrade! Although there's something to be said for "classic" computers as well. :)
