Video Freezes

Have tried just about everything to get any video to work. No problem with sound dvd's . The best I can do is when I un-install the dvd driver, then re-boot twice. The video comes on , the sound is choppy, then after about 10 seconds it freezes. I have a HP a131On, about 3 years old, have very seldom played dvd's. Have done the Codec, updates, different discs, etc. Please give some advice, the dvd I want to see is My Daughter's Wedding. Thanks
