video memory type. does it matter?

Yes you can. It doesn't matter about the memory type on the video card as long as the motherboard has the right slot. But it does matter for system memory.
 
Yup. This is true. Videocard memory is independent of on board memory. Like shenry said, make sure you have the slot and good enough power supply and you are good to go.
 
You asked this question in different form pretty much earlier. It doesn't matter what memory type the gpu uses, its compatible with any motherboard that has the same slot.
