video PC

Want to build new PC mainly or video editing and maybe future HDV editing.

I was looking at Conroe E6300 or E6400 ,P5B Deluxe or P5W DH mobo(price is still high).
As reading about a mobo it accepts only SATA??I cant use my older IDE drives??
Video card with TV/capture and 2 outs for monitor would be nice, otherwise I'm not a gamer so I dont need high end video card.

I hope it will be faster than my current P4 3.2Ghz,1GB RAM laptop.

Is this a good combination??

I don't know what video card to suggest right off, though I suspect a 7300 would work well. However, I would NOT look for a capturecard/video card combo. If you want to do real editing, get yourself a decent stand alone PCI card.

That motherboard(at least the Deluxe) has one IDE channel...

You don't need to OC that cpu for a video captureing machine...I would look into the 7300GS, maybe fanless if you want your PC to be HTPC like. Then get a nice pci or pci-eX1 tv tuner/capture with onboard compression.

So you think E6300 is fast enough for HDV editing??Faster than my current P4 3.2Ghz laptop?
What about mobo, isnt it overkill, should I take a look at something else????

Basic editing isn't hard on a computer, it's when you start rendering stuff. But usally, that's a process you do after your finished(IE just walk away as it chugs along :P)

An E6300 is much faster than your P4 3.2, though it can be overclocked a lot more. Just get a motherboard that allows you to overclock it, then you'll have the choice later if you want.

if you are doing high quality video and graphics you still need a high end card but you need a workstation card not a gaming card

those still can cost 500-1000 for top ones

If you have money to burn have a look at this board from Intel. If your using a dual core this is sure to work well.

Great Reviews!

The only problem i spot is you may have some difficulty mounting the heat sink due to the way the board is made

You could also look at this one:

This one looks pretty good, but you must know what your doing with the BIOS otherwise it is reported to become unstable

New setup

Finally I decided on Conroe E6300 with Gigabyte GA 965P DS3 mobo.

Now I heard there are some problems with Bios on the Mobo, also Northbridge run
really hot(do I need extra fan?) and some DDR doesnt work with it (1.8V??).

I will buy Radeon X1600 XT 256MB.

Will 500W PSU be enough??
ATX case mid tower or full tower?(still cant decide)

As the mobo doesnt have Firewire I will have to stick in extra PCI card and later I want to buy extra PCI capture/tuner card.

Already have DVD burner and soundcard from older PC.

Do I need extra fans or something else I forgot??

If you hear their is problems with the fan and tempreature it is safer to get a full tower so cooling is made easier.

Visit http://www.lian-li.com/Product/Chassis/Middle_Tower/Classical_Silent/M_C_S_PC-101.htm

This is a excellent case with great cooling features.

You could go for a 580W,600W or 1100W but these come at higher prices. A 600W is a good idea.
