Video Prob.

Allo! I'm probably the newest n00b here, so first, I'd like to say hi.
*Ahem*:" Hi".
Next, I have a question That I don't think is related to video cards, but then again, I could be wrong. My Video on Winows media player ten turns all bright and low contrast-y. Now, don't take me for a complete n00b, because I've tried to fix it via, reinstalling drivers, checking the settings in windos media player, and all that jazz. New Vega, my pal, has even tried helping me. So eventually I decided to come to this forum for help. So, anyone willing to pitch out some ideas? I'm sure that someone has had this problem.

You have an nVidia card, am I correct? I know they had an issue with this and a fwe of there drivers. Try some other driver versions. Maybe someone will know specifically which ones are affected and what not, but I beleive I too had the same problem you had at some point...

I've tried a good deal of different drivers, and so far to no avail.but there is a sea of drivers for NVidia. And yes, I do have an NVidida. I have a pretty old card too, a fx 5200, geforce series. I need a new one, but budget and lack of need for one has kept me from buying. t keeps up fine with my other friends cards, so don't mock me for this.

Glad you replied:

Hmm... I wish I could tell you exactly which drivers worked for me but I've not encounted that problem in some time. But I'm near 100% sure it's a software/driver issue, nothing hardware.

Well, I surmised this seeing as the card performs rather well in all my games and it only applies to video viewing. BTW, have you ever heard of fraps? It's an active game footage streaming device. Video on that runs fine until i swith it to Windows media player format. Odd, huh? I think that maybe a codec went? Is this possible?

Curiouser and curiouser:

Yeah, that's basically the exact problem I had... I think most players that don't use window's standard video overlay work fine.

Have you checked the video overlay options in the advanced display settings? I remember one driver actually messed up the gamma dial. It's like it would get stuck when you moved it, or just wouldn't change anything if it would move.
