Okay me and my brother just got our computer pieces today from tigerdirect. We got it all together and stuff and when we got it pluged in and powered it up there was no video. Everything inside seems to work just we have no video on the screen for some reason:confused:.. and cant figure it out. :P My brother has built a few other computers before and never had this problem.

If any of you can help or have suggestions to try tell me please, thanks. :)

We need a little more information please. What motherboard, video card, power supply, and so forth.

Have you heard any Beep codes from the motherboard? Are there any error codes on the LED on the motherboard.

XFX nForce 680i LT SLI motherboard
XFX GeForce 8600 GT XXX edition Video card
eXtreme Power Duo 600W Cool Master power supply
OCZ performance DDR2 RAM SLI

There was no beep at booting up because we couldnt find where to plug in the system speaker plug. We dont know what lights mean waht on the motherboard and the book doesn't tell us.

Hope you can help now :P

ok. i found the error but the info in the book conflicts with that of the actual pin conection. in the MB book it says a 4 pin conector can be used in the place of a 8 pin conector. (didnot realize that was going to be a issue) but in the book is says to plug it in to the left 4 but the pin only plugs in to the right 4. the book for the MB is very vage but going on the clip on the back it says one side is ground (which im guessing would be the black wires) on the side with the clip and the other side is 12V (yellow and black stripes i supose) but in order to get the 4 pin conector in that spot in that oriantation the cliping mecanism would be on the wrong side. i dont want to fry anything so im not sure what to do?

Thanks:

I have exactly the same problem with the same motherboard. I also tried to modify the power plug to fit in the way the manual says, but it does not work.
The mobo lights up, fans are running, the HD gets power, but there are no beeps and no video signal whatsoever.
I am under the impression that the CPU is not getting any power.
Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are trying to put the wrong connector in to the wrong plug.

On the picture, tell me which number you are trying to plug into.

In the picture below, you should be using the connector labeled cpu power connector 4 pin.

And not the connector that breaks off of the 20 pin connector like the following.

No, I am plugging the correct one. I cannot take a pic right now, but I will try to tomorrow. In the Mobo picture, the connector is the 8-pin connector #24. My CPU power plug has ground and phase inverted in respect to what the mobo manual says. Also, it fits in the lower part of the connector #24 in respect to the picture, while the manual says to plug the 4-pin connector in the upper part.

This is your connector right?

And this should be your powersupply.
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power RP-600-PCAR ATX from factor 12V V2.01 600W Power Supply 115/230 V Safety Nemko, TUV, cUL, CE, BSMI, FCC, CCC - Retail

There are 2 connectors that look similar. Make sure you are using the correct one. The one that says cpu 4 pin.

I am just having a hard time believing that the manufacture of either the motherboard or the PSU made the mistake you are telling me they made. This is a standard that all manufactures have to follow. So they should be correct.

The mobo connector is the one you are showing from the pdf manual, and the 4-pin connector is the one I am using. Look at the position of the clp, on it. The yellow cables (12V) are on the same side as the clip. Now, look where the clip is located on the mobo 8-pin connector. It is on the side that the pdf manual indicates as GND, ground. Something is wrong. My power supply is not the one you mention, I think that is from the other user. But I have the same 4-pins connector...
I ordered an adapter to get a 8-pin connector, but the oddity of the reverse order of the cables is still there..

Lafraider, you should start your own thread. This one was for Hozza. I did not even realize that you had hijacked the thread until now.

One person at a time, since Hozza's problem might be a little different than yours.

Hozza, have you figured out your problem?

This is not just a user forum, this is also a help forum. Trying to help more than one person per thread can get confusing, since everyones problem is just a little bit different.

Keeping it to just one topic, even if it's a related topic, keeps things simple.

Please feel free to start your own thread, and someone will get with you as soon as possible.
