video problem

ok im sure this has been covered before but ive got a problem everytime i play any game, it does not display full screen, its not in a window or anything the screen is just small, its sort of like theres a really thick black border around the screen anyway any help would be appreciated.
 
1. I know you said any game but could you give an example (or a few)?
2. What video card do you have? Are the drivers up to date?
3. Are you running DirectX9b?
4. Depending on the game, does pressing "+" make it better? (a lot of games allow you to resize the game window with the +,- button)
 
ok well soldier of fortune 2 and diablo 2 run in a small screen, and im pretty sure that no games run full screen but i cant remember any more examples.

its a fairly new computer and i dont actually know what video card i have and i cant find any info on my computer but i know it's 64mb with an intel 82852/82855 gm/gme graphics controller. im pretty sure the drivers are up to date anyway.

i am running directx9b and pressing +/- doesnt have any effect
 
1. Check that video acceleration is enabled and maximized (Display --> Settings --> Advanced --> Troubleshoot)

2. This might just be an effect of an oboard video card. Would it be possible to use an actual video card?
 
ahh dont worry i updated the intel graphics controller driver and changed a couple of settings and its working now, sooo much better, the screen before was about half its usual size. anyway thanks for all your help
