Hi, being xmas and having lots of family and friends over, naturally we got the old video camera out. Now it isnt digital, it has those little tapes, and i can connect to computer but it fills up my 250GB hard drive after a few minutes of trying to download.

Is there a program i can use to stream the video in the computer and it compresses or converts it. I hook up the camera through USB.

250 gigs seems out of line

I have both analog and digital camcorders. I get 1 hour of top quality on each but this can be extended to 1 1/2 hour on the digital and 2 hours on the analog with a small loss in quality. the captured files run about 3 to 5 gigs on my hard drive.I have had as many as a dozen one hour videos on my 200 gig HD at one time. Nero is a good program and capture is fast and efficient. I also have Sony vegas studio platinum and Roxio. They all capture to a much smaller file than you mention. two hour movies capture to about 8 gigs.DVD shrink compresses the digital 2 hours into about 4.7 gigs to fit a DVD but to get a 2 hour movie captured from analog tape I must redice the quality. This option is usually provided with your software. Some new digital camcorders offer a 30 gig hard drive in place of tape. This option offers many hours of filming.I do't recall the exact figure but it's a lot, perhpas 10 hours or more. A 250 gig file would let you film constantly for about a week.

my friend has blaze media, so im using that.....but audio gets out of sync when converting to divX video and mp3 audio
