So this kid on my floor has an issue. He has a 9800 GTX+ in a Dell Dimension 5100. The video card has a dual-slot fan on it. Issue is, it doesn't fit properly. He has to take the external cover off the heatsink in order for it to fit.

Is there another heatsink he could get to make the card fit properly? If you need pics I can get you some.

Im just assuming from a google search this is the Dimension 5100 guts.

Ye looks like the cards stock heatsink would hit that cpu cooler?

Like i said im only assuming.

If hes looking for a new cooler this should fit...well its compatiable with 9800GT....im sure the GTX is just an overclocked GT? so should be the same?)

Well I was talking more like a new CPU heatsink. Sorry I didn't phrase that well.

Most likely yeah. I'd have to take the stock heatsink off and just see what I have to work with though as far as screw holes and space.

maybe you could pick up a stock intel 775 cooler of ebay for a few dollars. that way you can fit a decent HSF on your GPU.

A normal heatsink will not work with this motherboard. That is a Dell BTX form motherboard. It has 2 big holes on each side of the processor...that's it:(

Your options are very limited actually. The stock heatsink is like a tunnel. The fan is a 92mm low power fan. If you mod that big black piece...it will loose the tunnel effect and destroy any cooling.

You either need to leave it and get another card that will fit or find a BTX CPU cooler.

Thermaltake made one...not sure how the size is different than the Dell cooler.

Yeah I didn't think there would be anything I could really do. Besides I'm pretty sure he's bottlenecking his CPU with the 9800GTX+.
