I'm new to the community and I hope someone can help me. I recently bought a HDTV (Sony Bravia XBR). I know alittle about computers but nothing about HDTVs. I plan on building a computer to connect to my new tv, but I dont know what kind of videocard i need to buy, or connection type to use. VGA,HDMI ?? I tried connectig my laptop, and got alot of white shadows around my windows. I dont plan on using this new computer for gaming. I simple want to use it as my PC monitor, using it to play music and videos without the imagie issues around the windows. What type of setup do you think i need?

Thanks You

If your TV has an HDMI port, you'd want a video card with a DVI port, and a DVI to HDMI cable to connect.

The price varies on quality of cable and length. But I picked up a $20 6ft DVI to HDMI cable from the Apple Store and it works great. I also originally used a $10 $6 DVI to HDMI which was also good.

8800GT is good.

He said he isn't gaming guys. You don't need a 8800GT or 3870x2 just for HDTV. I hear the 3450 is great for you're trying to do.

Thanks for the feedback guys, after hearing what everyone said and reading some reviews I think my best bet is one of these two cards below. Agreed???? Thanks again for all the help.

ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Nvidia's GeForce8800GT

you can get an 8500GT with an HDMI output, i have had excellent experience with that video card and HDTVs.

8800GT is for gaming. If you don't play 3d games, you don't need one.
2600XT is a mid-range card. It is alright if you do some mild gaming/ photo editing. And it is not too expensive.
