Viewsonic lcd monitor problem...

Hi,
I just got an almost new Viewsonic VA703b 17" lcd monitor from a friend. Everything looked great, and it powered on, but there was something strange about the display. One half was regular brightness, but in about the middle the brightness faded and the other hald was darker! the brightness on the monitor is as high as it goes..
has this ever happened to anyone before? and is there any way to fix it? im pretty sure the warranty is null and void, so any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

Sounds like one of the light tubes is dead. It'd more than likely be cheaper to get a new monitor than to send it off for repairs.

Did your friend rip you off? Or did you know that it was already like that? Did you even tested it out first? But as OvenMaster said, most LCD's are very expensive to repair and a new one would be a better road to take.

It sounds like that monitor was in use for some time to see a backlight go. They generally last between 30,000 upto even 50,000 on some makes and models. Too bad you couldn't return it for a refund from your friend? and then get one of the vendor deals going on.
