Im wanting to format my c drive to clean my pc up a bit. Though there are some files that i want to keep. Is it possible to make a virtual hard drive capable of holding my files while i format the c drive. If so can you point me some software please.

Thanx
shaneapp. :)

you can partition your hard drive into 2, put the files onto one of them, format the other, thenmerge them once windows is reinstalled. thats the nearest thing your gonna get to a "virtual hard drive"

So ive got to boot the computer up with the windows cd to create a partition, then put the files into that partition, then format the C?

Appolagies for the obvious question, just making sure.

Nope, I think you might lose your data if you do that. What you need to do is download a free trial of partition magic, and create a new partition with that. But, if all you needed to save was small files, get a gmail account (if you don't already have one). If you want an account, you're going to need to get some one to send you an 'invite', I've got a bunch if you want one. And use this to save files under 10MB. http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm

bu then hes got to download every file when he wants tot put them back on. the easiest way is to vreate a partition, or back files up to cd/dvd

Ive got Acronis partition expert 2003. I have one partition ( C: ) with 144GB on. about 80 GB of this is used and 64 GB isnt. How do I turn that free space (64 GB) into unalocated space ready to create a new partition. Ive tried using the resize feature but it dosent work it give me a 7 MB sized partition. Ive been tying to get this silly thing to work all day. Help much appriciated. :)

Start the computer with ur windows XP Cd ...
And? The point is the preserve the data, not kill it

Do realize that you'll need a new drive for this since making creating a partition from within another partition from the windows cd involves data destructive actions

the easiest way is to vreate a partition,
yeah we just need to do it outside of bootime

Well I have about 40GB i want to keep so ill go with the partition magix
Bingo :)
