ok so i had a question, i have a windows server 2008 install disk that i purchased through my college, i just went for a job interview and the company uses windows server 2008, and i kinda wanted to become more familiar with windows server. So my question was, is it possible for me to run a virtual machine of windows server on my pc? if so i kno it really wont have any real clients for me to play with but will i still be able to mess around with settings and become more familiar with the software? ive never used a virtual machine before

Yes. You can install Windows Server 2008 on a virtual machine. I actually have it on VirtualBox on my own PC and, like you said, you won't have any real clients but it gives you the opportunity to get used to its user interface. VirtualBox is a good one that I know works with it very well. On their website they have tutorials about how to set it up and getting your virtual machine up and running.

Since you're a student you should also Google: Microsoft DreamSpark. It is a program from Microsoft that gives free software to students so they can familiarize themselves with certain Windows programs.

Good luck!
