Virtual Memory/Paging file question.

It says that Paging File is memory used from the Hard Disk as if it were RAM. It's currently set at 768 MB. If I were to up this would my laptop work as if it were running on more RAM (I'm currently at 512mb)? Is there any negative effects of doing this? Could I get a list of Pros and Cons?

dont do that i did it on my desktop and it messed everything up. i tried to up it from that set amount to and it didnt help it made things slower cause it depended more on harddrive space. and i tried to turn the pagefile off and some programs and games didnt run so dont do that either

I have 3 drives with a one drive is empty, I have tried to use it as a RAM (virtual memory), but I have noticed that my PC is going to be slowly even if there was no program running.
virtual memory helps the hdd and RAM to load more programs, but think of it an another device (That is HD) u r accessing the HD, so then there will be some negative effects as in the speed side....

Maybe think about getting some faster hd's

Sata drives.. and its not much of an increase.. But the higher rpm drives are faster (obviously).

Perhaps, you are wondering what is virtual memory and paging file? Well, virtual memory is your computer’s simulated RAM. When you are running several programs at the same time, your RAM is used up quickly. So, your computer shifts data to an empty space and treats it as RAM. Likewise, the paging file is similar to the RAM. Its main purpose it to increase the amount of RAM and make it available to the system. You can increase the space allotted for RAM overflow if you increase the virtual memory paging file. Additionally, with regard to the best HDD, there is really no answer to that because each brand in one way or another has become superior to the others.
