Virtual Memory

I was trying to play an old game on my laptop when it said I was out of system memory, to cut a long story short I found a forum for the game and someone suggested I should change a setting on the virtual memory page to 'No paging file'.

This worked to play the game, but I began getting error messages saying I was 'out of system memory'. The custom size of the virtual memory zeroed itself so now I am not sure what numbers to put in; Initial Size (Mb) and Maximum Size (Mb).

I know you will need details on my computers' stats, but I don't quite know what. So if anyone can tell me what they need to know in order to give me the correct Initial and Maximum size, I will do so.

i had this same problem but i never knew about my stats. when entering maximum size come up with a ridiculous number like 50000. it should then tell you what the highest you can go to is. after you find that out post it on here

I tried typing in a large number, but it just said my C:Drive wasn't big enough for the amount entered.

Thanks for that link, but I don't even know where to start on that!

I don't see how NOT having a paging file would help if you're running out of memory. I personally run my desktop without a paging file, and it does really help with performance, but there's the likelihood you could run out of memory.

Rule of thumb, from what I've heard, is to set the virtual memory to 1.5 times however much RAM you have, on both the low and high amounts. This way the paging file isn't constantly changing which should help performance.
