Virtual Memory??

Hey I was just curious what it meant when Windows says that the system is running out of virtual memory???

as seen on:

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/virtual-memory1.htm

For example, if you load the operating system, an e-mail program, a Web browser and word processor into RAM simultaneously, 32 megabytes is not enough to hold it all. If there were no such thing as virtual memory, then once you filled up the available RAM your computer would have to say, "Sorry, you can not load any more applications. Please close another application to load a new one." With virtual memory, what the computer can do is look at RAM for areas that have not been used recently and copy them onto the hard disk. This frees up space in RAM to load the new application.

theres a diagram on the site to help u understand a little better too.

basically, it is ur hard drive acting as ram in order for your computer to do more.

In a nutshell virtual memory is your harddrive using space to help your ram when it is full, if you get those virtual memory issues alot you should probably get another stick of ram

Or up your virtual memory size, a good rule is to have 2 GB total of RAM and virtual memory.

I have mine turned off, should I have V memory on ?????

God I had nothing but probs with Dfi Mobo the one you are going to use.

VERY VERY hard to get a good set up to make it stable, in the end not worth all the time and trouble I thought nightmare

Well, windows needs virtual memory to work, so that may have been your problem... :P

Why would you turn it off?

If you can afford it get it, all helps in the end!!!
Cheers :D

if i can afford to get 2 gigs of ram im just gonna buy a faster processor which would do much better than 2 gigs of ram imo, 1gig of ram is plenty and im a gamer so i need lots of resources and 1gig has never failed me, maybe cause im running dual channel but i just think i will never need 2 gig for a while tell half life 3 or doom 4 comes out or maybe battlefield 3 :D
