Do you use Virtual PC software? and which?

What operating systems do you run in these virtual systems? and what do you do/use them for?

Does the virtual harddrive actually take up space from your hard drive?

Yes i use Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 for Ubuntu linux and other linux distros.

No they do not use real hard drive space....Thats why its called Virtual:)

Its very good if you want to try out another Operating system but are not sure about instaling it into your real hard drive.

I use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and I love it, not a huge difference from 2004, but in general it's a great free program. I use mine to run Windows98 for kicks (reminds me of the old days :P).

Well technically they do, since the virtual hard disk is stored on your computer, but it doesnt need it's own partition or separate disc.

Well yeah but realy it doesnt mess with the hard drive does it so....Lol you know what i mean.:D

you need lots of ram, virtual machines will take up certain amount of ram. I have messed with various vmware and used xen but not really extensively. Virtualization eats up tons of ram, and emulation eats up processor. However, really no one emulates anymore its almost all virtual.

A 15gig virtual hard drive will not tack up 15gig of hard drive space on your "real hard drive" until you have saved 15gig of information on it.
