Virus affecting keyboard control on boot

I went to a video game website I probably shouldn't have gone to. Immediately it seemed fishy and my computer went into over drive, I closed my browser and within a minute or two my computer settled down. I tabbed back into the video game I was playing (which requires internet connection) and took care of some things for about 5 minutes. I closed the game to take care of this possible problem. I ran ad-aware and it found malicious material and I deleted it. Then I went to check my facebook and my browser gave an error message saying the proxy settings needed by my browser are disabled, but my network was still up and running. I decided to clean my hd and reinstall the os (windows vista). I pressed f12 for the boot menu but at the boot menu screen my keyboard went dead, lights, and all the functions to go with it! So I had to manually shut down. After this I went into the bios and changed the boot settings there, this went well, until I exited the bios and the prompt screen came up asking me to press any key to boot from cd-rom, and my keyboard went dead again. My keyboard works fine with any other function. The computer doesn't seem to be dragging either. The game I was playing is somewhat sought after by greedy thieves who make money off the in game content, so I am a bit worried. Any help on how I can bypass this problem would be greatly appreciated.

P.S right now I am using my laptop directly connected through cat5 to my modem, could my wireless router be at all affected by this?
