virus on xpsp1

a pc (winxpsp1) has been affected by virus.We manage to remove it but i saw that the "wallpaper" section of display properties is locked..Even when highlighting a picture and say use as desktop wallpaper it doesn't work.
SO i upgraded to SP2 only to realize that it's still locked.

Anything i can do so as to unlock this so we can use wallpaper ?

or do i need to format?

What did you use to get rid of the virus? What was it called?

Another thing to take in mind is not to upgrade to SP2 if you have a virus or something that will harm your computer. It will not solve anything and probably make it worse.

are you a computer administrator on that machine? if so, i have a way to fix it...

ok first i used Avira Antivir..then trojan remover then advance spyware remover.After all done,i updated kaspersky 6 and did a full scan..So nothing was found...then i realise that this was in the administrators account. i switched to normal user and it was ok !!...so how come admin is not working (note that im not in safe mode)

i didn't use hijack this !!..i leave this one for the browsers..lol
