Ive picked up something on my desk top that i cant get rid of..its a small window that pops up in Internet explorer and windows explorer, its says "system error, your comp has been infected with a dangerous Trojan ,blah, blah, blah...if i click OK its tries to download an anti malware program that wants me to pay for. if i click cancel it goes away until the next time i click either program. my mcafee cant find it, spybot cant find it, Ive also tried a free registry cleaner from cnet.com. thats about as far as my abilities can take me. I'm hoping someone can help me in the right direction to fix this. thanks.. also I'm using vista home premium if it matters.......ive also done a system restore as far back as vista will let me ( just a couple of days back )

I think the only way i have ever solved something like this it to reinstall the whole system. Start clean.

If you want offer free help :)

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

To sum up in your next reply I'll need the:
  • Hijackthis log
  • SmitFraudFix log
