Virus or other malware inside ? help needed !

Vista

New Member
Hello everyone,

I am (again...sigh!) having a hard time with my laptop... I suspect some malicious programs inside, but I cannot get rid of them...
The computer is very slow when turned on (approx 3 to 5 minutes for windows to start) and applications (including firefox) sometimes crash without warning... Now, I have performed the scans under the sticky "basic malware"...but the first issue is already there : Ad-aware is no longer able to perform a full scan ! When it comes to deep scanning the HKEY registry, it freezes. I have already uninstalled it and installed it again... without success... The other scans (housecall, spybo, etc...) have found and reoved some stuff but not so many...

My highjackthis log is below. Any help fro you guys ? Thanks in advance !

The above are simply the typical "unknowns". But McAFee itself generates more problems as you can see in the following possible "nasties"?

AVG 7.5 free antivirus and the new AVG Anti-Spyware Free(new Ewido renamed) are available at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free AVG has been good for pointing out where things tend to "hide" on a drive.

trojan.small.fb

Thanks for this. All the "unknows" are clean processes. As far as McAffe is concrened, I'll probably get rid of it and replace it by AVG.
I've tried AVG spyware already and it keeps finding the trojan.small.fb, but ddoes not seem able to remove it ? How can I get rid of this one ?
Cheers

The one thing that stays constant with AVG is that it will "locate" a good deal of the "bugs" that can get onto your system. Often you will need a special remover for certain types of malwares like edifier has pointed to one at the link there. The AVG Anti-Spyware tool is probably the one you are talking about there is the latest version of Ewido now under Grisoft's ownership since they bought Ewido. That will grab the things that AdAware SE Personal will miss in larger numbers. AdAware will get what that misses. They seem to work great together however.

The Ewido trojan scanner is available at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ The full features are available for the first 30days of the trial period. Symantec also has some tips for blocking multiple avenues for back door trojan downloaders as well as some removal information seen at http://www.symantec.com/security_re...cid=2004-021914-2822-99&tabid=2&src=symsug_us

Thanks to all.
I've used fixwareout adn highjackthis to kill the nasty little beast... Apparently this has done the trick (AVG doesn't find the trojan anymore). I'll run the sacns you recommanded this week-end just to be sure and let you know if this is solved in order to close this thread !
Thanks for the help !
Cheers !
