Someone admits to getting stiffed by Avast? Avast lasted less then 1hr. here when put to the test. Can I make a few recs on programs like AVG 7.5=free edtion from Grisoft for home use only, Ad-Aware SE Personal=free home version, Spyware Terminator=free and recommended by PC World magazine, Spybot Search&Destroy, AntiVIR, and a few others?
For Grisoft's AVG 7.5 you can download that directly from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free Aooarently their Anti-Spyware Remover has a 30day for all features. To substitute that Spyware Terminator just happened to come along at http://www.spywareterminator.com/
For Ad-Aware SE Personal, http://www.lavasoft.com always available with the preparation to beta test the 2007 version soon.
For Spybot S&D, http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
If you want to look at a good number of other freewares mixed in with some sharewares one site provides AntiVIR as well as others. For antivirus tools, http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads29.html For additional spyware and adaware removers, http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html
One word of caution on some sharewares is the gimic where "supposed" bugs are found when no other program finds them. "But" you need? to buy the full retail version to see them removed? BUNK! Go with something else.

CCleaner itself will cut down on those leftover temp folders installers leave behind. But be careful if you create your own folders for storing different type of files on the drive. It will have a tendency to go after those too at times.
AVG, Ad-Aware, and ST work well together where one finds things the other misses. That's usually the typical data miners seen after searching for hardwares and lower prices on them. The last site has quite a bit more then bug blasters there to note. There's links for benchmark programs and other system utilities as well.
