virus spreading across wi-fi network?

2 questions.

I have multiple computers on a home wifi network.

1. If one of the pc is infected with a virus, can that virus spread to the other computers on the network?

2. If the answer to 1) is yes, I assume that can happen when both the infected and clean pcs are on the network at the same time. But can the virus spread when the infected and clean computers are not on the network at the same time?

thanks for your help.

A virus requires user interaction so it will only infect and spread as you interact with the infected file. A worm can spread across a network and some but in most cases your router's firewall should protect against that unless you set some exception rules.

If the machine is turned off then the infection can not spread to them.

1) Yes
2) No, unless you transplant things like USB drives between the two machines.
