Virus, Spyware, pop-ups problem...

hey guys, my uncle asked me if i can fixed his computer, he needs all the files for work, so i can't format the disk. Computer is a P4 2.8, 512 DDR, geforce 6600. Windows HE is loading about 10 minutes after it's loaded, i click on the IE to get on the internet the whole browser freezes, u can still use the computer except the internet, the computer is filled with viruses and spyware. He has verizon DSL. I dont want to copy anything on my computer, for i can get infected. So i just want to ask u guys whats the best software i can use to remove his stuff. I have Norton and Mcafee, so should I use one of these? thanks.

Norton and McAfee are at the "bottom of the rotten fruit barrel" there. Verizon has a free a antivirus tool available for those with accounts through them. Have a cd writer? You can download a few free tools like AVG 7.5, AVG Anti-Spyware Remover, Grisoft special removers for specific viruses, Spyware Terminator, and a long list of others. The following provide quite a few tools you save to a temp or even permanent folder and try running on the infected system.

If these point out where the "bugs" are located you can try booting up in safe miode for manual removal.
