Hey
Okay this is crazy

So im at my friends house fixing his computer, he has one of those virus pop ups .. the one that looked like the ones pre-installed on your computer..
The ones you can uninstlal if you do services.msc /s then messenger then diable... well i looked at that .. its disabled..

so wtf..

I removed one virus already... if you open a internet, instead of going to msn.com it takes them to virus fighter thing, so you can buy there virus, sometimes it takes them to other websites sayin your computer is infected.. there is a lil "mine" lookin thing next to my clock.. pops up says my computer lalal is f'd up please click to buy this program to remove the virus.

wtf.. is going on

i ran CCleaner.. removed all that junk

i ran XP tools.. removed all that junk

i ran Spyware sweeper ( which removed the [1] Virus... )

and getting the new NAS07.

to trojan chekc it,
anything else i should do or chekc.

Apparently a shareware of some type was installed with the typical browser hijacker to take you direct to the purchase site for buying a full version of whatever program was installed recently. You can download a few free tools like AVG Anti-Spyware Free along with AVG 7.5 antivirus as simple precautions. But you may want to either right click on the task bar or press Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager in order to look over what processes are running in hopes of identifying the program installed.

It's not so much a virus as a trojan included with something that was installed. Once you have a suspect process ended you can look over the programs menu for any new addons there to see if there is an uninstall link. You can download Grisoft's AVG 7.5 along with the antispyware tool at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free

Another good one while only being in shareware form is Webroot's Spysweeper. Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

There's your bad boy.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".


The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
