ok so my mum was on the computer and she said she got a pop up from avast saying virus detected then the computer crashed. Restarted then it worked fine but then restarted again later and now saying no sound card detected. so any ideas please, could this be a virus or is there something wrong with sound card, also not sure if it is sound card or built in audio.

any help would be great

right click my computer >> properties >> hardware tab >> device manager >> sound video and game controllers

now make sure that the sound card is enabled and the device is working properly

This is not necessarily a virus. I would suggest uninstalling avast immediately. I was running a computer with avast and it kept finding so called "problems" with my computer. After putting AVG on it there were no problems detected. Avast actually deleted a system file once! You should probably uninstall Avast and download and install AVG. It works MUCH better. Try Googleing for the driver to your sound card. Download and install the driver and it ought to work. My guess is that Avast deleted the sound card driver.
