Hi All.

Just installed Vista on new machine.

Was sweet for a day, but last night I seem to have lost my DVD Drive.. In both "My Computer" and "Device Manager"

I know its installed correctly as BIOS sees it and can boot from it no problems so its only Vista...

I looked around google... and tried the "fix" that everyone suggested.. Which involved deleteing the "upperfilter" and "lowerfilter" in a specific registry (cant remember the exact one now but search it and you'll see what I mean)

But the problem is... that in that registry I dont have a "upper" or "lower" filter key....

So I was fustrated and was like fine Ill search it lol. Which found one so I deleted it and the lower one too... Only to have my Vista not boot next time lol so I had to do a repair....

So... Does anyone out there have or no of another fix for this?

Cheers

It was there and then it just disappeared? Might you have accidentally deleted the drive? Maybe try adding it back with the Add Hardware in control panel and have it search for new hardware.

I know Vista lists my dvd drive as a cd drive, dunno if thats what you might have also.

Nah didnt delete it..

Already tried the scan for new hardware thing, Ive got one fix to try tonight... Then if that doesnt work Ill try unplug it. Restart. Then plug it back in then restart and try the scan new hardware again.

Tried all the fixes... I dude from Microsoft even reckonmended me one... didnt work...
Tried a reg file (you know the ones that adjust your reg for you) that was ment to fix it... didnt work...

This is annoying me, anyone got anything?

Lol Nope... Cause it works in BIOS and in Windows 7 lol. Its just pissing me off now.. Gonna just bail on Vista and use Windows 7.

Is it a Sata or IDE Drive. If its a IDE, try going into Device Manager, go to the controller its suppost to be on, right click on it and hit uninstall. Reboot and let it reinstall the controller and see if it shows up.

I still have the same problem on my 32-bit Vista OS SP1. w/IDE drive.

I have tried the upper & lower filters in reg edit with no luck, only causing BSOD's after the next reboot. Ran a repair and my system came back on. However the DVD/CD icon is still not there. I will try and uninstall the hardware and then reinstall as some suggested.

I think this all started after I installed Nero 8 Ultra edition.

Any other tweaks I could try?
