Vista 64 vs XP 64

Hello,

I just recently purchased a laptop -HP HDX X16-1000EN, the specifications are preatty much the same in all models, only few things are better(speed, hard drive capacity).

here are the main specifications:

I had a stationary PC before, with windows xp. That PC was really messed up and buggy.

I enjoy the performance of my new computer, BUT! The vista is driving me NUTS! It is really laggy, buggy, and, well, it's just much slower than XP.

I have searched the web and this forum, but i was'nt able to find the answer to this : Is there a big difference between XP 64 and Vista 64?

Dual core and 64 bit is a new thing for me, i have never had a computer with such proportions.

As i understand 64 bit operating system is there to utilize all the ram and all other things to run the computer at its full. So i was told , if i were to switch to xp , my ram would 'downgrade' and i would not be using my laptop 'pc' at its full potential, and i dont really want that, i need all the power i can get!

So if i were to switch from vista 64 bit to xp 64 would my laptop 'pc' downgrade? and would not be at its full potential?

I really dislike all the glow and glamor on vista, im the kind of person that turns off all the visuals and everything, till its simply black and white, to improve the performance, but i've heard that with 64 bit computer it will actually make it worse?!

i would really like to switch back to xp, while using my laptop 'pc's full potential!

Thank you,

after my months of protecting XPs Honor i think its time to say Vista isn't that bad.... It does use Direct X 10 so its will be better for gaming and so on and after buying Vista there's no point in using something that the company's trying to kill

I know that direct x 10 is 'pre-installed' with vista, it comes with it(as i understand) but can't you install direct x 10 manually in XP?

Games are nice, i really enjoyed playing the ones i've always wanted, but were'nt able to, it fun, but, my main usage of computer is for audio programs, so i need the speed,so graphics do not matter much.

I'll stick to vista if xp 64 will make my pc work worse, but im not sure if it will

The Vista core is actually faster than the XP core. However, it is saddled with a lot more graphics. You can turn off much of the graphics content to use Vista for music production. I'm talking about things like the sidebar etc. There is no reason in this day and age to downgrade to XP. None at all. When Vista was new it was a hassle, mostly because of the lack of drivers. If you want a new O/S, wait until October and upgrade to Windows 7.

Allright :)

thanks for the info fmw. I had in my mind the upgrade to windows 7, but i wasnt sure. Im going to check out more about it. As i've heard , it is everything that vista was lacking and it works with no problem, atleast that's what i've heard from people who tried beta.

again,

thanks for the help

And besides, if came with Vista. You would have a hard time finding drivers for xp x64 for a machine that is designed and built for Vista. Go with Windows 7 x64 when it comes out. I really love it over Vista. That is the only way I will pull away from my Windows xp x64. I have Windows 7 x64 beta, love it.

Thanks for all the info, it really helped me to decide: I think i'll stick to vista, alteast until windows 7 comes out :) i really wonder how it is, as i've heard windows 7 runs much more smoothly then Vista.

thank you

John

Yup, windows 7 is basically an improved version of vista. Just an FYI, you could always use the windows 7 release candidate(almost final version of OS) as it goes public sometime tomorrow) I currently have it and i have noticed some really good improvements, flight sim X gets nearly a 15% increase in framerates on HIGHER settings.... weird.

Nope, no DirectX10 for XP.
