Vista: Accidentally blocked a game, how to unblock???

As the title says, i accidentally blocked a game. When I started the game, it asked if I wanted to keep blocking it, or to allow it or something, and I accidentally clicked keep blocking.

I have tried adding the program under exceptions for the firewall. I have tried disabling windows firewall entirely. I have tried disabling windows defender entirely. I really don't know what to do here, and I have been at it, and searching online, for like 2+ hours. It's awful.

The only support I can find from Microsoft is how to unblock startup programs, but I don't think that applies here; this is a game, its not a startup program or anything.

Can anyone here help me?

What game was blocked, what version, is it a legal copy? Did this happen after installing updates for the game or your computer?

Did the "Block Window" look like your anti-virus or your operating system? Or did the message window look unusual, like a program you're unfamiliar with?

Is your computer showing any other odd behavior?

Most likely its windows firewall and you just have to go into its settings and create an exception for it so it can run.

Does the game not work; if so, how?

If you've added the executable to the firewall's exceptions list, then it should be unblocked. If you turned the firewall off altogether, then it can't be the problem. Either you have misconfigured something somewhere, or you may have another firewall stuffing you up.

It was a legal copy of the game and everything, yeah. The box asking to keep blocking the program or allow it was definitely legit, part of the OS or a microsoft program thats supposed to be here.

I did, however, get the game working again by resorting to a system restore point from two or so days ago.

I would still be interesting in finding out another way to unblock this in case it happens again,... though I don't feel like blocking it on purpose and testing ways out, so I guess I will have to wait lol. Thanks for the replies anyways guys.

I think Johnb35 is correct, it does sound like a firewall. If its a new game, check that game's community to see if others are having similar issues. It may be a fault in the game or how the windows firewall. Just click slower and more carefully in the future, and double check if you're unsure of the meaning of a dialogue box's question and/or statement.

Some other things which come to mind:
  • Is your firewall set to basic or do you use the advanced controls?
  • How did you set the exception for the program you want to use?
  • Make sure that in the firewall settings, that its selected for windows to notify you when something is blocked.
  • Though you added the program to the "program exception list", did you double-check to make sure it was actually removed from the "blocked programs list"?
