Vista BCD problem...

When I go to the command prompt and type "BCDEdit /ems OFF" (I'm trying to turn the EMS off and have only the OS at the selection page or turn the os selection page off all together so it straight boots into Vista), but here's the problem.

At this command it says "The boot configuration data source could not be opened. The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid."

When I go to System Properties >> Advanced >> Startup and Recovery
The drop down menu that says "Default Operating System" is empty.

During startup the OS menu appears and has "Boot MRI PE [EMS Enabled]" at the top and then below it, "Boot Client OS"

Something's wrong with the boot file, but since boot.ini is gone and noe BCD is the only thing, I can't figure out to fix it.

Any suggestions??

I downloaded a copy of Geek Squads' MRI disc, ran it and found that it changed the boot folders name and I just had to change it back and everything worked fine. Thanks for the suggestions though.
