Vista CD Doesn't Boot

:eek:Well I think my cpu is in really bad shape. I dont care to save any data or anything, all I am trying to do is format the HD. I changed the boot order in my BIOS to the CD drive first and HD second and It will not boot the windows Vista CD, It keeps going to the screen where it asks if you want to load Windows normally or in safe mode. No matter what I pick it restarts, and keeps cycling in the fashion. I have had issues before but was alwasy able to utilize the Windows Vista CD, now that I can't, I'm lost. Please help!!

i never was lucky enough to install Vista. BUTT........from windows can you run the cd. try starting in safe mode. then exit to dos or use explorer and see if you can run the setup 1st on the boot disk. if you can run the disk but won't install because its in the dos environment i would suspect its because something still is not set up in the bios properly. it won't run from windows but should try and request an exit to a dos mode boot process.

if you reboot then 'F8' can you exit to dos mode then access the cd drive. dir at the drive then run setup.

Make sure that the cd is not scratched or fingerprints all over it. Also is this a genuine vista install cd? Or is this a copied cd?

Vista won't boot though BIOS

It is the perchased Vista CD, not copied...I did wipe it down and did not notice any scratches. I am not able even to run the OS in safe mode to get to dos. I will try to get to dos from the BIOS. I think this is a difference between XP and Vista though.

You have an issue somewhere if its not allowing you to boot to the cd/dvd. Either you don't have a dvd drive or the disk isn't bootable, or the boot setting in the bios has change.

I don't think u can get to dos through BIOS with Vista. I have used both the fail safe and optimized defaults changing only the first and second boot devices to CDROM and Hard Disk... It then tries.to read the CD but then goes to the screen that prompts the safe mode or start windows normally prompts... After multiple attempts.,prior to posting this thread, I was successful in booting the CD. However I chose to try and repair rather than format... It seems the repair was unsuccessful and I was never able to get it to boot again. It does seem the disk is deffective but visually doesn't appear so.

On some boards even if you have the CD as first in the boot order you still have to push a key to boot it. Look at the bottom of the screen when it first boots and see if it says Push any Key to boot from CD/DVD. If you dont it will just boot to the next in the boot order.

Your CD/DVD-ROM drive must be the FIRST device to boot from in the BOOT order in your BIOS and your DVD MUST be bootable otherwise you can't do anything...
Also be sure that your DVD isn't damaged.Try to boot from it in some other computer.Maybe your CD/DVD-ROM drive is dying:D

Same exact thing is happening to me, but I'm trying to install Windows 7. I set my CD/DVD drive to the 1st thing and it just skips right over to my hard drive and goes to the safe mode window. I can't start it in safe mode or anything because these are just a bunch of backed up files. I don't see any button to boot from CD on startup.

No clue what to do.

Figured out my problem. Used Nero instead of an ISO burner so it wouldn't boot. Now it does.

Edit: Now I finally get the "Press any key to boot from DVD", I hit it, it goes to a black screen and a silent PC. Does nothing. Any ideas?

By the way, this is the ISO I downloaded from online and burned to a DVD.

Usually we burn all DVds the maximum speed of the burner
but for operating Systems thats not a very good idea.
There are to many small files and fastest u burn it worst its for compatibility.
I spent a lot of hours on this kind of problems and in the end usually its only 3 things:
Burning too fast the DVD
The DVDs not compatible with Optical Drive
or the software that is being used to burn is not the right software.

So I just downloaded ImgBurn after seeing it was kind of popular. Burned at its slowest speed (x1), put it in, ran it. It was going really well so I ran downstairs to get a drink and came back and the computer was booting up again like it restarted. I forgot you had to press a key or it restarts. So I'm going to assume that it finished? Now it just freezes again.

Sigh....

Edit: Also it's completely random how far it gets into the "Windows is loading files" screen. The bar freezes and the PC goes silent at completely random times. Sometimes it doesn't even get to that screen and just goes to a black screen after I press a key.....arrrrrggghhh this is so frustrating.

Edit: I've now burned 5 DVD's of the ISO at the lowest speed these programs could handle. All x4 except for 2 x1 ones from ImgBurn. I also used Alcohol 120% and another one. I'm starting to get the feeling it's not the disks.
