i downloaded that multi core meter thing and it has always worked fine until now, it is just blank. no writing or bars, just blank. any idea why its doing this?

there is a few untrusted/unsigned gadgets on the loose that actually don't work when installed or if they do, they corrupt later on.
where did you download it from ? Microsoft ?

This one? You can uninstall the gadget and reinstall.

The first thing done here when going to install Vista was to disable all of the "eye candy" including the redundant side bar for the Classic view. The gadgets now seen in the bew version are just that eye candy for simply selling the long overdue version and make it more appealing then XP.

Practical? NADA! Try PC Wizard or some of the far more accurate bendhmarking programs available. Even the taskmanager's performance tab's cpu and memory paging indicator looks better then that gizmo. :P

There ya have it. Close this thread! :P

Bad copy downloaded? Bad install? Something you now have running seeing a conflict? It could be from a number of things. You may want to review the firewall-antivirus-IE protection and whatever else you have running in the background there to see why. As far as praticality you are better off with the task manager, CPU-ID, or some program specific for benchmarking or diagnostics.

Yea i have this on my laptop at home i haven't checked it for a while but when i used it, it worked fine very interesting.

It's funny but in every article seen on improving the performance in Vista the one constant advice is disabling all the extra gadgets that don't do anything for you to begin with. The good old taskmanager's performance monitor always works here. :D

I tried all that stuff plus Vista themes for XP and the works and simply went back to what works the best as always. "Classic Windows"! :D
