i have vista basic ......... and i have had problems with it shutting down after few hours. Before it shuts down there will be this screen that says sth like windows is shutting down to prevent damages to the system.
And whenever after i turn on the comp , this window will pop up saying that the solution can be solve by downloading windows vista service pack 1.. and i already did that but the problem still persists.
can anyone help me solve this problem?
 
Is it a BSOD (blue screen of death)? Lets make sure that SP1 actually installed, if you can right click on "Computer" and go to Properties, under Windows Edition it should say:

Windows Vista Home Basic
Copyright 2007 Microsoft Corporation...
Service Pack 1

If it does not say that, then try downloading SP1 again from the Microsoft website.
 
just to confirm if i've downloaded the right one , is it - windows vista service pack 1 five language standalone ( KB936330) ?
