Ok silly me to ask this but here it goes.
I have this home Pc in my signature and im thinking of installing vista on it.Vista business (again:P)
Last time i installed ultimate on an IDE 40GB drive (back then i has 512mb) i got classic theme by default, and my mobo had no sound drivers.
So now i have 1.5GB ram,and an 80GB Sata,(fine i'll remove XP) my video card is ok.
Will vista run smoother.

edit : i don't play games -BUT i do need VMWARE and i do Video Editing,DVD rendering etc.

opinions please !!! :o

(please don't ask me to get a better CPU, i don't have the money and even if i did, the only CPU i will get is a Core2Duo, which comes bundle with a new mobo, so basically new hardware :( )

yeah vista will run smoother, simply cause you've got another gig of ram. In my experience, vista is VERY ram hungry because of superfetch.

In short superfetch will cache ram for programs and allocate them what it thinks the programs need (i highlight thinks because it decided to allocate my copy of BF2 over 1.2gig of ram!)

At one stage i was running ultimate x64, and with a fresh install it was already sucking up 660mb of ram for windows services alone!

agreed, on my thinkpad vista sucks about 400 but it still runs smooth, but since my PC is celeron it won't be the same

Oh ok, lets just hope it's not too much worse lol. But just on a side topic, one thing i do find funny is how most people are bagging out Vista at the moment. Sure ok it's ram hungry, has combatibility issues with a fair few programs, and the list goes on. But was XP any worse when it came out?

From my memory XP didn't start getting reasonably decent till after SP1. But now look at it, easily one of the most stable OS's out ever. Let's just hope Vista will follow the same path, cause it will suck big time with DX10 if it doesn't :(

Let's stay on topic please, this is not XP vs Vista
