Vista Install Issue

I got an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium and when I try to install it, it gets all the way to "Completing Installation" and my system freezes. This has happened multiple times. Are there any known compatibility issues with my hardware (in signature)? I've used the Advisor thing and the only problem was some software compatibility but that should matter if its a clean installation on separate partition.
 
That's your goof there. When trying to install Vista Home Premium to the second partition on the second hard drive in order to dual boot XP Pro the Vista installer locked up. The new version of Windows wants the whole show to itself! XP Pro was then installed onto a third hard drive added originally for a storage and backup drive. The installer wants the first not second partition!
 
I discovered the problem. I took out all extra hardware except for the HDD, GPU card, and optical drive and the the installation worked perfectly. Got it loaded, then put all extra hardware back in and it froze on the welcome screen. Unplugged my card reader, same result. Plugged card reader back in and took out my no name firewire card and it solved the problem
 
That's more of a hardware not software compatibility problem there if the card isn't defective. A faulty device can do it. Just see how everything goes over the next few days.

Yes, I am aware of it being a hardware problem. I think maybe my SoundBlaster Audigy 4 card, ever since I installed the drivers for it, i get the "blue screen of death". Just an observation.
 
OUCH! Those nasty Creative sound drivers! I've been through this countless times on XP and now Vista! It's tricky sometimes to get those in correctly. And it doesn't seem to take much at times to see the old BSODs! You have a driver hanging there.

The one tip is to go into the DM and right click on the Creative(WDM) item seen under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers" to choose the uninstall or update driver option. The uninstall would be used there since you are seeing crashes. The update option is for lack of sound when a driver gets knocked out.

When you are ready and have the installation disk in for the card in the drive exit the installer to proceed with the uninstall option in the right click menu. Once done go to the add new hardware wizard and manually choose the new device to install. You will then see the browse for driver option where you browse under audio\drivers to click on the main driver. Windows will then copy and install all of them again. After removing them this way you may still have to reboot. But sometimes you can get by without that.
 
i actually got it working, i did infact do it the way u explained since i once already installed it vista refound the drivers automatically and did it. i still installed the audio console software and when i restarted it i still got the sceen, then i loaded "last known good config" and its workin fine now with it. so hopefully it will stay, hahah.

and yea i had problems installin creative drivers many a times in xp, with it just sticking, sucked.

Vista could care less where its getting installed. As long as it has the room it will go where you tell it to install, its not controlling until you install it =P
 
Oh really! Tell that to the installer when it refused to go through the installation process after reaching a certain point when not having the first partition on a second ide drive not the primary. But that's was solved fast since XP Pro the second OS and was simply installed to the first sata. Each hard drive ended up with it's own copy of Windows on it.
