Vista Internet connection problem

Hi guys, i just got my new rig working today,and i got a little issue with the internet...

Instead of connecting straight to the internet, the comp is showing that it is connected to "Network 2", and then from Network 2 on to the internet, is there a way to get rid of that Network 2 and connect directly to the internet? my download speeds are half of what they were when i was on the XP rig and im wondering if that has anything to do with it

network 2 is just the name it gives to your home network. Can't get rid of that.
are there any other programs you've installed on your vista pc that might take use of your bandwith?
