Vista - No Media Works! Help!

Ok, so yesterday after I came home from school I tried my usual routine of opening up either Zune or Windows Media Player for music, and when I try to play music in either one, I get an error message saying in WMP: "Media sharing is currently disabled, either because the sharing service is not running or your firewall settings have changed. To restart sharing, you must first confirm your sharing settings" then it freezes with that window open and I need to use task manager to get rid of the WMP window.

When I try Zune and go to play a song or movie or whatever, I get about a fifth of a second of the bar that should mean music at the bottom, then it gets the red X next to it and once everything in that list has an X i get "Zune cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct".

Now, I'm not running on a network, I just have a modem for internet and sometimes switch out the computer ethernet in the modem for a xbox 360 ethernet connection and reset the modem so it works and visa versa, if that has any relevance. I'm pretty computer savvy, but, I haven't got a clue what a proxy is or how to fix it, or what I should do.

I should also mention that trying to download something as a temporary file such as a video to play it in either player does not work either, and streaming videos from websites or youtube has no sound, and about every 10 seconds it stops streaming normally and goes extremely slow and broken up even though the entire video is already pre-loaded. I'm running on vista premium 32 bit, and would love any help, I'm pretty attached to my music. Thanks.

I posted this is general, but got little aid. I should add that my music is mostly in the my music folder, not that it is relevant, because I just tried, and not even a CD will play. I still get the same errors more or less, and the WMP window freezes if I do anything involving the Library tab, or try to access the sharing window. Also, explorer freezes if I go into the networking and sharing parts of control panel, I tried this because, even though I'm not on a network, the errors are in concern to this "sharing problem", even with a CD in the drive. I'd love any help, even if it is directions on who to call for tech support and what do ask for. Thanks.

If I were to just call a tech support for help, who should I call? Does it seem like it's something I should go straight to Microsoft for (do they even have a tech support?) or is it more of an HP (I'm on an HP, obviously) problem, or should I call my ISP, even though the problem still persists when I have the modem unplugged from the computer.

1. Call HP
or
2. Dump Vista, get xp

Trust me, I'd do anything to dump Vista, but I simply do not have the money, and my old XP was fried in lightings storm and couldn't be recovered. The only computer I could afford was Vista. Sucks.
