Vista Premium.. what is the capacity of max ram?

I have Vista Home Premium.... no idea if its 32bit or 64bit, how do I know? anyway what is the is the max ram it can read?

Simply right click on the MyComputer icon seen on the desktop and click the properties item at the bottom of the right click menu. That will provide the general system information as well as whether the edition is 32 or 64 bit.

The maximum for the 32bit with SP1 installed is still some 3.2gb available ram out of 4gb while the service pack now out corrects the detection of the full amount installed. For the 64 version it depends on which edition. The Basic supports upto 8gb, Home Premium supports upto 32gb, and the Ultimate and Enterprise editions support something like 128gb being server orientated with the Ultimate seeing support for that as well.

Even 4gb is well over what is needed. For upto 8gb you would run a 64bit edition if you were running CAD or some other memory intensive engineering/graphics design type programming. In addition to that most 32bit games and applicaitons were never instended to run on systems seeing over 2-3gb of memory installed.

Even the 64bit editions of Vista have problems during installation where Microsoft advises first removing 2 out of 4gb until Windows is up and running. The additional 2gb is then added back in afterwards. It's a case where the more memory added past a certain point is the cause for more problems in general.

word up @pceye.

dude, 6gb is way too much. seriously. i knw its vista and all but its friggin overkill. no,no

Someone else recently started another thread talking about wanting some 6 or 8gb of memory installed. Simply going to 3gb from 2gb is more then plenty already for most. With 2gb installed here the performance section in the task manager was only showing 552mb when looked at earlier.

hahaha 8Gb 4x2Gb FTW baby. im using windows vista Sp1 and havnt had a problem

It may be overkill but its still nice to say you got 8gigs of ram lol

Vista Premium 64-bit is actually a max of 16GB of RAM.

Indeed, these bragging rights rule!

waste of money if you never use it. Better off not buying some thing you don't use and spending the money on some thing that you will use.
