Vista Problem ... installation! please help

ok .. everything works great on my new build.. but when i get the the windows installation menu to select what hard drive i want to put windows on i get a error that says

* windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation*

i have 2 hard drives a 150 gig raptor (which reads at 139 gigs available) and a 250 gig seagat barracuda (which reads at 239 gigs available).

they both show up to the page and both work. is there something i need to do or?? ... i wanted to call microsoft for trouble shooting but they are already closed.. do u guys have any idea how to fix this?

You are not going about it right apparently. That message is seen when there is no primary partition for the installer to find on a bare drive. When booting up with the installation disk or using a 3rd party program the first thing done is to create a new primary type partition for Windows to be installed to.

Once partitioned the installer will format the new primary when going to copy the setup files onto the drive. The second drive can be formatted once Windows is up and running with the Disk Management tool or even when booting with the Vista dvd using the repair/optional tools option instead of the "install now" to bring up that screen.

when i install vista premium w/my disk the criteria for me is it needs to have windows xp home/por service pack2

The thing to note there is that is on a brand new build likely seeing brand new bare drves that have no OS on them unless taken out of an older case. The existing partition if present might end up having to be reformatted if not deleted for seeing a clean install of Windows. The lack of a volume presumes lack of existing primary on two raw unused drives.
