Vista Questions

I still don't know whether to stick with my XP Pro 32bit or go for Vista Premium 64bit.

I've found a reputable shop selling Vista Premium OEM 64bit for £59.99 which seems like a bit of a bargain. They sell the 32bit version for the same price. Are there any issues with the 64bit version i.e. drivers? System specs in my sig.

Driver support by hardware manufacturers is now only starting to see reaily since Vista's release. XP Pro 64bit was an unknown for most especially to those like ATI, NVidia, Creative, and other companies to some extent as well as seeing Linux drivers that have bee appearing lately. You might have to hunt for them for addon devices.

Currently running the 32bit edition of the Home Premium version along with XP Home separate by itself on a second drive I'm simply finding Vista to be another version of Windows when comparing things like gaming and running various programs. By the sig there you already have 2gb of memory to work with. But the bulk of the programs as well as games are still 32bit.

As a primary OS everything still leans towards 32bit for the present time while MS will be finally dumping that following the next desktop version to be released in a year or two according to some information seen about this lately. It's actually long overdue when compared to how fast the transition was from 16 to 32bit seen between 95 and 98 at that time.

I went from XP to Vista, and I think it's great, I haven't seen too many issues, nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of common sense anyway... For £60, you can't go wrong! Try Ebuyer, I think it's around that price :)

Once you get familiar with the changes seen between versions typically seen you still find the basic Windows shell to some extent. Many that never ran older versions that ran on 4mb, 8mb, 16mb of memory are shocked at seeing 512 used over XP.

Take a look at how much has changed hardware wise especially 16gb capacity for desktop model baords and some complaint about seeing 512mb? Vista actually should have been out in about 2003-04 now seeing strictly 64bit versions. But the game as well as software market is still 32bit for the time being.
