Vista says no dvd is present

I have a fairly new laptop with the blu ray DVD player/burner in it, I reformatted my laptop and it says no DVD present when I put one in the drive. When I go to system, device manager it says the device is working properly. It worked the other day and then it quit working. Anyone have any ideas?

Does the dvd drive show up in "my computer"?

yes it does show up

Then maybe the reading laser went dead on you. Might want to have it checked if its still under warranty.

It works "sometimes" because I was able to load some software

I still say you have a failing drive and it needs to be replaced.
