So I went to click on the start button and it wouldnt work. No menu will show. I pressed the power button and then turn the computer back on.. booted up and still nothing.
Im running Vista Ultimate SP1. Its a fresh install, was installed yesterday. But has been working fine since then.

Scanned with hijackthis but didnt find anything exciting.

Any suggestions?

Thankyou

I haven't used vista for a really long time (1-2 yrs), but maybe explorer.exe failed to execute at startup. Is just the menus a problem, or nothing is working? Do the desktop icons appear? If not this may be the problem.

Try this (if this is the problem):
1) Alt+ctrl+delete
2) in the task manager press "New Task" under Applications (on xp, don't know on vista)
3) type "explorer.exe" and press ok

everything else is working fine.
for some reason typing explorer.exe ends up opening my documents haha.
anyway everything else works apart from the start menu button :)

I really don't know very well vista, but maybe the taskbar has it's own process.
Will changing the theme to windows classic solve the trouble?
Other solutions that may work: reinstalling, upgrading to xp

You call passing from vista to xp upgrading? lol

windows classic doesnt work either.
well... thanks for the ideas
About your problem, if you right click the start button and select propreties then classic start menu, does it work?

so what? for me it ain't matter at all how new vista is, but for me vista looks like windows Millenium Edition with a new theme. That's why I call it as upgrade, not downgrade. This word is not accidentally used, it's intended.

History is repeating, don't you see?
windows me (vista in this case) vs win 98 second edition (in this case xp which is version 5.5, and win98 first edition being win2000 which is version 5.0).
Win 98 Second Edition is much better than Me isn't it? Just like xp vs vista.

Thankyou alex, classic start menu did actually work. I still would like the old one back but anyway :)

I used to always whinge about how crap vista was and how awsome xp was. But at the end of the day, Vista pwns noobs :)
I have so fewer problems with vista, especially with drivers.
I went back to xp a while ago and really had many problems.
Unless your computer sucks and cant run it, Vista is perfectly fine.

Your welcome, but I think you'll have to keep the classic one till the next clean install :(

Same here, except the "went back to xp" part :P

He tells the truth
il stick with xp
until a better one comes out
the new windows
is meant to be fairly good
iv got a mate who works there ;p ;p; p ;p

but ye xp beats all
its just so easy to use
and if a computer is quick on vista
then double that speed for xp :P

You see?
You have 512 mb RAM
And you never tried vista
I soppose
You cant even run
The home basic
And you're criticizing it.

And I can get cool too:cool:
By using lots of lines
When I reply.

i used to love xp
but vista is better for me
if you have a crap system
then maybe run xp
but if yours is good
then you dont need to worry

vista is great and much less trouble
then xp is for me.
i have so much trouble with xp
it definately has benefits
but people who whinge about vista
are usually pretty ignorant.
